Gay Jewish Film Debut in UK

By Caroline Westbrook

Hineini: Coming Out In A Jewish High School tells the story of Shulamit Izen, an openly gay student who campaigned to form a gay-straight alliance at her Jewish school in Massachusetts - and had a powerful impact on her community, as well as her teachers and her fellow pupils

The film features interviews with Izen, members of her family, her teachers and other students - both those who supported her campaign and those who were against it.

It had its world premiere in November 2005 and since then has been screened at 35 film festivals across the world as well as having special showings at Jewish schools and universities.

Hineini - which translates as Here I Am - will be shown at the festival on March 24 and 25, at the National Film Theatre.
